Singer Barbara Howard was 18 when music producer, Steve Reece (her future husband) heard her at a talent show hosted by Redd Foxx and took her to a recording studio. There she recorded “On the Rise,” still an R&B favorite. The Cincinnati native (b. 1950) and Taft High School graduate opened for Stevie Wonder at the Ohio Valley Kool Jazz Festival at Riverfront Stadium. She sang on national TV shows such as The Mike Douglas Show and Upbeat.
