KATHLEEN BATTLE

Six Grammy Awards confirmed what audiences already knew when Kathleen Battle first stepped on the Metropolitan Opera stage in 1977: she’s among the finest lyric coloratura sopranos of her time. The Ohio native (b. 1948) studied at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Known particularly for performing Mozart, her repertoire has also included jazz and spirituals.
