JAMES BROWN

Renowned as the “Godfather of Soul,” and honored by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, James Brown profoundly influenced soul, funk, and hip-hop with powerful performances such as the 1968 classic, “Say It Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud.” Brown (b. 1933) recorded for Cincinnati-based King Records and mentored local musicians, including Bootsy & Catfish Collins.
